The first edition hardcover of this science fiction novel, written by Fletcher Pratt, was first published by Avalon Books in 1962.

It is an expansion of a novella he co-wrote with his wife I. M. Stephens (Inga Stephens Pratt) called “A Voice Across the Years”, originally appearing in “Amazing Stories” magazine in the winter 1937 issue.
