This American psychological thriller is an adaptation of  John D. MacDonald’s “The Executioners”, published in 1957.  Directed by J. Lee Thompson and starring Gregory Peck, Polly Bergen and Robert Mitchum as the violently psychopathic ex-con Max Cady.  This film also features a strong supporting cast with Lori Martin, Martin Balsam, Jack Kruschen, Telly Savalas and Barrie Chase.

Many of the original cast also made appearances in Martin Scorsese’s disturbing 1991 remake starring Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, Juliette Lewis and Joe Don Baker.
