Founded in 1923, the independently owned “Czechoslovak State Airlines”, now known as “Czech Airlines”, became the flag carrier of the Czech Republic. It is the fifth oldest airline in the world with a long and turbulent history of service.

In 2024 it was acquired by “Smartwings” but retains a majority ownership and has now been repurposed as its holding company.
