Automobile Movie Theatre – 258 glyphs, 4 weights.

Bold and wonky vintage style display based on a small newspaper ad for the world’s first “Automobile Movie Theatre”.

The Camden Drive-In, the very first theatre of its kind in the United States, opened on Tuesday, June 6, 1933.  Located in the Pennsauken Township district of Camden, New Jersey, it was the brainchild of Richard Hollingshead, for which he was issued a patent on May 16, 1933.

After an initial investment of $30,000, patrons were charged 25¢ for the car and 25¢ per person, pretty pricey during the Depression. The movie showing on opening night was the 1932 British film “Wives Beware” (aka “Two White Arms” in the UK), starring Adolphe Menjou.
